"Clark's music is right up there with her mentors. Joni, Rickie and Bonnie, move over. Make room for Anni ..." - NEW ENGLAND PERFORMER MAGAZINE
July 3, 2017
Hello to All! Can you believe it? July already… right about now I sorta wanna slow things down… cos here in New England we tend to cram all kinds of stuff into about 10 weeks’ time, makin’ hay while the sun shines, so to speak. I’m on board a fast movin’ train, tryin’ not to blink… don’t wanna miss a thing. Gigs, more gigs & people to meet along the way… a lot of outdoor music in my recent past & near future. In addition to listed public performances, I continue to share my music in many Senior Living Centers in southern & mid-Maine… many of these concerts are for residents only, so I only list the “public” venues… without furthers, here’s all the news, in this order:

MONDAY / JULY 10th / POLAND SPRING RESORT / SUNSET CONCERT SERIES / POLAND SPRING ME / 6:30PM / 207-998-4142… for the first time ever, concerts this year will be outdoors at the gazebo, with the White Mountains in view as a backdrop… gorgeous! If weather dictates we move inside, I’ll perform in the All Souls Chapel, one of my fave places to sing. This is a concert series produced by & created to support The Preservation Society at Poland Spring. I love singing here & helping to preserve the history of Poland Spring. Bring the family to enjoy a concert with a grand view & a special mission. Here's the link to the Preservation Society, where donations are always appreciated.
FRIDAY / JULY 14th (& AUGUST 11th / TODDY BROOK GOLF COURSE / N YARMOUTH ME / 6PM / 207-829-5100… EVERY TIME I play here we all have such a great time! I’ll be playing every 2nd FRIDAY, every month. (That’s a lot of everys.) I’m a Yarmouth native… this spot is just over the town line in N Yarmouth, but it feels like home to me. The food’s great, the view’s inspiring, the people are wicked friendly & my voice floats nicely in this room. You might consider calling in a reservation… I’ve seen some pretty packed nights in here! Here’s the Toddy Brook website.
THURSDAY / JULY 20th (& AUGUST 17th ) / LENNY’S / WESTBROOK ME / 7PM / 207-591-0117… Lenny’s is on Rt. 302 at the old Al Hawkes Plaza… you know, with the guy out front swinging a tool box? Bill Umbel created this eclectic, down-to-earth venue, named it in honor of the late, great Lenny Breau & he’s booking a line up of some of the best acoustic players around…. so happy to be part of the family! The vibe here pulls you in & hugs you… feels like home. Grab some pals & head over… bring your appetite for food & music both. Here’s a link to Lenny’s.
FRIDAY / JULY 21st / PRIVATE FUNCTION / N YARMOUTH ME (The 45th YHS High School Reunion at Toddy Brook! THAT should be a blast…)
SUNDAY / JULY 23rd / YARMOUTH CLAM FESTIVAL / YARMOUTH ME (Memorial Green) / 1:15PM… I used to play at this spot annually, after the Friday night parade, for about 20 years! This will be the first time I’ve played here on a Sunday… my set begins right after the Diaper Derby… perhaps I’ll draw a really YOUNG crowd this year?? Certainly, I hope to see the “locals” that I grew up with in this beautiful seaside town… (not that we’ve really grown up yet… God forbid.) The Clam Fest takes over the whole town & folks come from far & wide to partake of all it offers. Great food & fun, races & rides, music & magic, clothing & crafts, fireworks… & the biggest parade EVER, still on Fridays… I am always ecstatic to be part of the BIG HOMETOWN PARTY… Check out the Festival Schedule here.
THURSDAY / JULY 27th / GREENVILLE GAZEBO SERIES / GREENVILLE ME / 7PM / 207-695-2702… I have always loved playing here beside Moosehead Lake with the sun setting ever so sweetly on the water & over the surrounding mountains. This scene could be a summer postcard enticing enough to make one drive the extra miles to be part of it. I am psyched to be part of it again in 2017! If it rains (NOT!) we move inside, venue to be announced. (If you’re in town, go to the gazebo & check for signs announcing the rain site.) If it’s a nice evening, bring chairs or a blanket, a cooler with some summer snacks & bevies & be ready to sing one, dance to one, or both. Call the Moosehead Lake Region Chamber of Commerce (above) for furthers.
FRIDAY / AUGUST 4th / JJ’S EATERY / OLD ORCHARD BEACH ME / 7PM / 207-934-0222… have you BEEN HERE yet? This is a fave year round hang for the locals, including yours truly. I play every other 1st Friday & I always arrive with bells on, as they say. It’s an all ages friendly venue with great food & beverages… a fun spot to celebrate anything, everything or nothing at all! I suggest y’all come early & stay late… Here’s their website.
WEDNESDAY / AUGUST 9th / COLBY COLLEGE / WATERVILLE ME / 8PM / I am that evening’s performer at the Annual Appalachian Trail National Conference!... The Conference runs August 4 through 11, hosting a vast variety of activities & presentations, inclusive of many hiking opportunities in our beautiful state of Maine. Having through hiked the trail, Maine to Georgia, way back in 1975 (when maybe 300 people had done it end-to-end!) I am excited & honored to be one of this year’s performers… surely, there will be much talk about the trail experience in between songs. They listed me in the flyer as “Bluegrass & Folk”… NOT! I call it “Folk, Pop ’n Blues with a dash of Maine Huemah.” Hope folks who are checking out my website read this… I would HATE to disappoint the Bluegrass Fans in any way! Check out the Conference website here for directions, a list of activities & applications to sign up for different events. I am beyond excited about this one! Think I’ll bring the hiking staff I created from a piece of birch I found in the woods of VT in 1975… I still use it!
FRIDAY / AUGUST 11th / TODDY BROOK GOLF COURSE / N YARMOUTH ME / 6PM / 207-829-5100… (see JULY 14th for details.)
TUESDAY / AUGUST 15th / DRUMMORE BAY CONCERT HALL / PHIPPSBURG ME / 7PM / 207-446-7199... This is a TRULY COOL VENUE! My 5th show here I think… they can’t keep me away! My friend & fellow musician Jackson Gay & his wife Jean purchased this building with a vision for all good things happening, mostly musically involved. Jack put in a really great sound system… my voice feels like a million bucks in here. Between my musical sets, decadent pies & other gourmet desserts, coffee & tea will be available to make a sweet night even sweeter. The venue is at 516 Main Rd (Rt 209 out of Bath)… easy to find. RESERVATIONS are strongly encouraged. You can call Jean at 207-446-7199 or order tix from the website here.
THURSDAY / AUGUST 17th / LENNY’S / WESTBROOK ME / 7PM / 207-591-0117… (see JULY 20th for details.)
FRIDAY / AUGUST 18th / OCEAN PIZZA / OLD ORCHARD BEACH ME / 7PM / 207-934-2900… one of several close-to-my-home faves; yet THIS ONE has one feature that all the others do not… Pam (the owner & French chef extraordinaire) will NOT allow any cover tunes to be played here! Yep, you read that right, folks… it’s ALL ANNI TUNES here… which is brilliant in so many ways… but for ME? I get to run through my catalogue of originals, dust off the ones in the library that may be on the back burner of my brain & re-experience all those songs I haven’t been performing in rooms where covers need to be part of the mix. Fabulous idea & so much fun. And the food? Pam stole her Grandma’s recipes before she crossed over from Italy to the US (lucky us in OOB!) If you ain’t tried it, the time is now… here’s their website.

3. CURRENT CEREBRAL WANDERINGS
Suffice to say we waited a long time for some sweet, warm, dry weather to bathe us here in the northeast… when it finally seemed like summer MAY actually get here, I was way past ready for some outdoor adventures, some of them musical, others not so much… still, in my ever busy brain, all ventures are worthy of song.
I tried to get back to my beloved Nantucket THREE TIMES before the trip finally materialized in real life, not just in my heart & my mind. It’s not important to explain the reasons for procrastination… when I finally boarded the ferry in Hyannis, I knew that the time was right for the adventure to unfold in the best way possible… the time picked ME, not vice versa.
A couple days out there were sunny, breezy, blue sky, pinch yourself gorgeous days… others were big time gusty & if not wild & wet, always humid… my hair does it’s own little dance out there… I stopped combing it & lived like an islander for 5 days… I lived for the moment, gave myself up to serendipity & came home with a boatload of amazing new Nantucket memories… EVERY day was gorgeous, no matter the weathah. Here’s a morning shot of the harbor, not far from Straight Wharf & Main Street… along one of many walks I enjoyed while there.
One of the coolest things about revisiting Nantucket (where I performed at The Brotherhood for 2 weeks, twice a year for 20 years!) is that I get to hook up with a lot of the folks who also worked at The Bro during those years of my coming & going… The Brotherhood is way different now than when I played it, but the people? Well, we just picked up where we left off… & we did a lot of “do you remember when?” & laughed our butts off, too. Amazing place to walk, ride a bike, catch some great music, eat some awesome food & just chill… I had such a blast, I stayed a day longer than originally planned… cos that’s what happens on Nantucket… no plan is usually the best plan.
Back on the mainland, I hopped back onto a moving train… “don’t forget to breathe” & “don’t blink” become common mantras this time of year… along with “wear your sunscreen, your hat… & be ready for anything & everything.” With Nantucket beaches still fresh in my mind, I donned some new funky pants & headed to The Swick for some seriously fun dancin’ & hangin’ with the locals in Old Orchard Beach. Home again… summer again… ahhhh!
Here’s wishing you all a festive & fun 4th of July! Safe travels to those of you moving about… on your chosen journeys, if you can find time to sneak in an Anni gig along the way, I’d love to see you… if not this month, maybe in August. Thanks, as always, to all of you for staying tuned to my wanderings… be they cerebral, musical or otherwise. Be safe… don’t forget to breathe… & I’ll be watching for you.
